Neat (and Weird) Alice in Wonderland Party Invitations
One of the most fun aspects of hosting an Alice in Wonderland party is that there are so many opportunities to create weird and wonderful party invitations, decorations and costumes. To start the party off on the right note, go all-out with your Alice in Wonderland party invitations. You can even incorporate items that the guests will bring with them to the party and use for different themed activities. Here are some ideas to let your guests know that your party is NOT one to be missed.
Contemporary Invitations
The Alice in Wonderland books offer plenty of interesting quotes and quips that can be deployed as the fronts of invitations. Try some saying like:
- “Have you thought of at least six impossible things before breakfast?”
- “Eat Me” or “Drink Me”
- “Who are You?”
- “Don’t be Late, Don’t be late for a very important date!”
would all be right at home on an Alice in Wonderland party invitation.
Print these sayings on square cards, using only red or black ink. On the inside (or the back of the square) include the party details.
Props as Invitations
The lucky few invited to the Queen’s croquet match play croquet with pink flamingos. What fun would it be to attach an invitation card to the neck of a pink flamingo and deliver it to your party guests? Be sure to include all of the important details on the invitation!
Costume-Inspired Invitations
Have a little bit of fun with your guests before the party! Ask each guest to dress up for the party as a different character from Alice in Wonderland. As part of their invitation, send the party details as a prop. For the person dressed up as the White Rabbit, include a pocket watch. The Mad Hatter will, naturally, get a hat. Playing cards will get playing cards.
Yes, this invitation type would be best for parties where everyone is going “all out,” but they would kick up the action a notch.
More Conventional Alice in Wonderland Invitations
These invitations are just as fun, if not a little bit more conventional than other ideas.
Playing Card Cookies: Decorate a cookie like a playing card. Include a tag that says “eat me” on the front, and details about the party on the back. Wrap the cookies in clear cellophane bags and tie up with red and white ribbons.
A Cardboard Mad-Hatter Hat: Make a mad-hatter hat out of construction paper or cardboard. On the inside of the hat, write the party details.
Queen of Hearts: On large, red construction-paper hearts, write all of the details of your Alice in Wonderland party.
These are just a few ideas to help your wheels turn to think of fun and interesting Alice in Wonderland party invitation ideas.
How to Make a Sue Sylvester Costume from Glee
One of the most fun characters on the show “Glee” is the cheerleading instructor Sue Sylvester. She is both funny and terrifying. That makes her a perfect character to dress up as for Halloween, or for a costume party. Luckily, Sue’s fashion choices are pretty consistent, so it is also pretty easy to come up with a costume that says “Sue”. Here’s what you need, and here’s how to put it all together:
Costume Clothes & Accessories
To transform yourself into Sue Sylvester, you will need the following items:
- A solid-colored tracksuit, preferably Nike or Adidas
. (Or you can turn a generic tracksuit into a piece of logo merchandise by adding your own logo.)
- Short blonde wig
- Athletic shoes
- A small, gold megaphone charm necklace
- A clipboard
- A stopwatch
- A whistle worn around the neck
Pulling the look together
The colors of all of the accessories and items should match. Blue/white, red/white, black/gold, etc. Then, in order to really get into character, you’ll want to make sure that you have your stopwatch, clipboard and megaphone ready to go when you walk into your party. Sue likes to shout cutting one-liners into her megaphone. She also likes to whisper snidely into people’s ears.

Extra Credit
You’ll get extra credit for your Sue Sylvester costume if you channel her stint as music-video star with Olivia Newton-John. You’ll need terrycloth sweatbands (for your head and wrists) to complete the look.

This is the way I used to imagine throwing a party. Frankly though, my first few parties were far less successes than that. So why do you think that was? I tell you. It was because I lacked a few basic tools and a plan. It’s that simple. I’ve been wanting to capture my thoughts on this idea for a while. And in this article, I …

To have a Themed Party or to Have a Party with no Theme
Why would we write an article about having a party without a theme, when we’re all about party themes? Well, not every party NEEDS a theme. Sometimes, adding a theme to a party can distract from the goal of the party: to enjoy friends and relatives in an intimate setting. Sometimes, adding a theme creates added work or strains the budget. And, sometimes a party is so impromptu that a theme isn’t a choice – the party came together so fast that there wasn’t time to add a theme.
To theme or not to theme? We answer the question.
Advantages for going without a theme
No theme usually means fewer decorations. That can mean less money spent.
Focus remains entirely on the guests, and not on the party …
Why we Love Evite
We love Evite®. Why? Because Evite removes one of the most pressing, and crippling barriers to hosting a party: the invitations. Almost nobody mails invitations anymore. MAYBE, for your child’s early birthday parties, or for a christening, or for a wedding. If you feel like you have to mail invitations, you might not be as likely to host the casual get-together party. Emails and phone calls can be kind of hard to track and sporadic. Evite is the answer!
Put Together a Party
Wanna have a barbeque next weekend? How about a pool party a couple of weeks from now? Need to know approximately how many people will be at your next event? Running low on time to track down emails? Turn to Evite. It’s …
Make Yo Gabba Gabba! Cupcakes
Yo Gabba Gabba! is a super-hot right now, not only among toddlers but even college kids – it even won a daytime Emmy. The funky and retro music, minimalist style and famous guest stars (Snoop Dog made an appearance in their live show) has made it a hit and hip phenomenon. So, like any good parent, you’re almost certainly brainstorming ways that you can put your creative talents to use and make your child’s Yo Gabba Gabba party wonderful.
Now here’s the dilemma: as much as you may wish to make your child’s party true to the hit show, you may (like me – shhh) be a bit shaky with your icing freehand. Or perhaps you’re simply short on time. Do not feel guilty about …
